At Vienna Woods we believe that the natural qualities of wood are best enhanced when wood is treated in the most natural way possible, therefore we recommend environmentally friendly, very durable Natural oil, Hardwax oil or UV oil finishes. Natural oiled and Hardwax oiled floors not only look incredibly beautiful, they provide exceptional protection from wear, feel warm and velvety to touch and develop a patina over time to look even better with age.
These ecological finishes do not seal the surface, instead the pores remain open so the wood can breathe; any moisture in the wood can easily dry out, allowing use in areas not traditionally suitable for wooden flooring, such as bathrooms.
In the past oiled wood floors required more maintenance than other finishes, however the latest generation of wood care products ensures caring for oiled floors is easy. Oiled wood floors are now extremely popular in Europe, and New Zealand is fast catching up.
Admonter natural oiled floors have been installed in numerous high traffic environments including Smith & Caughey's Auckland, Munich Airport VIP lounge, Nürnberg Airport Restaurant and a shopping centre in Bern, Switzerland.
Natural oil finishes do not leave a film on the surface of the wood like polyurethane, instead the special 100% natural oils seep into the wood layer and harden, creating an incredibly beautiful and durable surface, leaving the wood pores open so you can enjoy the natural wood surface as nature intended. In most cases you will never need to sand and refinish the entire surface of a Natural oiled floor, as scratches can easily be spot-repaired by the home owner – simply sand the scratch and apply more oil.
Natural oiled floors develop a beautiful patina over time and actually become even more beautiful as they age. Compare this to a polyurethane finish that deteriorates and wears through over time, requiring the floor to be sanded back and recoated several times over its life.
Natural oiled wood feels wonderful to walk on with bare feet, and the open pored surface is warm to the touch and slip resistant. The open pored surface allows the wood to breathe, regulating moisture in the air, for a healthier home environment. Natural oiled floors have a great resistance to wear (also suitable for commercial purposes).

The oil finish is dried during production under UV lamps, making the wood surface very durable and easy to care for. This process means the surface cannot be spot repaired like Natural Oiled or Hardwax Oiled floors as the production method seals the surface. UV oiled floors are a great compromise between natural oiled and polyurethane finishes – they give a similar appearance to a natural oiled finish, but are a bit more forgiving than natural oiled finishes if mistreated through a lack of maintenance.
UV oiled floors are cared for in a similar manner to Natural Oiled wood floors.
Residential care for Lamett: Mop every 1-3 weeks with Blanchon Soap. Optional: Mop once per year with Blanchon Maintenance Oil. View full care instructions here.

Also extremely popular in Europe, Hardwax oiled finishes are based on a mixture of vegetable oils and natural waxes, providing a beautiful natural matt appearance favoured by many. The beautiful oiled surface, wide ranging colour options and extra moisture protection from the wax component provides a superior finish.
The special natural oils penetrate deeply into the wood, hardening within, while the wax remains on the surface to provide extra protection. The surface is micro-porous allowing the floor to breathe, regulating moisture levels for a healthy room environment.
Like Natural Oiled floors, Hardwax oiled floors can be spot-repaired so a well maintained floor will never require sanding and resurfacing like polyurethane finished floors.
Residential care: Mop every 1-3 weeks with Blanchon Soap. Apply Blanchon Maintenance Oil using cotton cloth, mop or buffing machine, every 6-12 months. View full care instructions here.
The application of matt acrylic lacquer (polyurethane) entirely seals the pores of the wood. This acrylic lacquering is elastic and absolutely uncomplicated in care. An additional "anti-scratch" coating makes the floor extremely durable and resistant. However, all these characteristics are at the expense of the totally natural surface.
Polyurethane finishes will eventually require a full refurbishment; however it is possible to 'screen and recoat' the surface in between full refurbishments. This is a process where the existing layer of polyurethane is spruced up, by lightly sanding the surface and applying a further top coat.
Residential care for Lamett or Admonter: Use Blanchon Lagoon (ready-to-use wooden floor cleaner), or Admonter Clean & Care; apply by mop every 1-3 weeks. Vacuum or sweep in between times.
