Tauranga & Bay of Plenty

How a Tauranga project buys from us

Vienna Woods is a specialist timber importer, not a general flooring store. We do not sell carpet or vinyl. What we supply is engineered European oak: wide plank, herringbone and chevron, priced by format rather than by colour, so changing colour does not change the price.

Our showroom is in Newmarket, Auckland, and it is our only premises. So a Tauranga job usually runs the same way: free samples couriered to your door, a quote against your plans and quantities, then delivery to site. Stock moves, so ask us for the current position on a colour before you specify it.

The construction

Engineered timber flooring in Tauranga

An engineered board is built in layers. A wear layer of real European oak is bonded to a core, and the finish is applied in the factory before the board ships. A solid timber floor is milled from a single piece of timber. In both cases the surface you see and walk on is real oak; the difference is what sits underneath it.

Across the four collections below, that means a 15mm board with a 4mm European oak wear layer over a multi-ply core (Petit Château, Château, Icons), or a 14mm board with a 3mm European oak wear layer over a birch core (Foundation). Every one is tongue and groove, laid glue-down. Our engineered timber flooring guide covers how engineered boards differ from solid timber in more detail.

The formats

What we supply, and in what size

  • Standard plank 190 × 1900mm (Petit Château, held in stock in every colour)
  • Wide plank 220 × 2200mm (Icons, and Petit Château Grand)
  • Character wide plank 240 × 2200mm (Château, selected colours to 2400mm)
  • Fixed-length plank 200 × 2200mm (Foundation, no short boards)
  • Herringbone and chevron blocks 600 × 120mm
  • Stair nosings colour-matched, 1200mm long
What to ask for

The four things worth pinning down

  • Wear layer. The depth of real oak above the core. Ours are 3mm and 4mm.
  • Grade. Feature and character grades carry knots, sap and colour movement between boards; Prime is cleaner. As a natural timber product, some variation between boards is normal. See wood types and grades.
  • Finish. Matt UV lacquer across most of the range, an air-dried lacquer on Foundation, oil on selected Château colours. See floor finishes explained.
  • Stock or made to order. Made-to-order formats take approximately 3-4 months from order, an estimate that can vary with production and shipping.

The range

Four European oak collections

The species is European oak across all four. We are a direct importer, so the boards come to Tauranga through us rather than through a chain of middlemen.

Foundation

A fixed-length board, held in stock.

  • 14mm board / 3mm European oak wear layer over a birch core
  • Fixed-length plank 200 × 2200mm, no short boards, so fewer end-joints
  • Air-dried lacquer in a soft matt sheen
  • Held in stock

Herringbone and chevron sit inside the same collections, in the same colours, as 600 × 120mm blocks, so a hallway in parquet and the living areas in plank can share one floor. See the herringbone flooring and parquet flooring pages.

Common questions

Does Vienna Woods have a showroom in Tauranga?

No. Vienna Woods has one premises: 2 Roxburgh Street, Newmarket, Auckland. Serving Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty. Our display panels and samples are with a selected flooring retailer in Tauranga. Enquire and we’ll connect you. We also courier free samples anywhere in the Bay of Plenty.

Do you supply flooring in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui?

Yes. We supply engineered European oak flooring to Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and the wider Bay of Plenty from our Auckland warehouse. We are a specialist timber supplier, so we do not sell carpet or vinyl.

What is engineered timber flooring?

A board built in layers: a wear layer of real European oak bonded to a core, finished in the factory. A solid floor is milled from a single piece of timber. Our boards run 14mm or 15mm total with a 3mm or 4mm European oak wear layer, tongue and groove, laid glue-down. Our engineered timber flooring guide goes further.

Can I get samples sent to Tauranga?

Yes. Samples are free and couriered anywhere in New Zealand, including Tauranga and Mount Maunganui. Order the colours you are weighing up and look at them in your own light, in the room they are going in.

How much does timber flooring cost in Tauranga?

The same as anywhere in New Zealand. We price by format, not by colour, so changing colour does not change the price. Our timber flooring cost guide covers the range, and a quote against your own plans and quantities is free.

How long does delivery to the Bay of Plenty take?

Stock lines ship from our Auckland warehouse and we confirm the date with your quote. Made-to-order formats in Petit Château, Château and Icons take approximately 3-4 months from order, an estimate that can vary with production and shipping.

How do I look after a timber floor?

It depends on whether the floor is lacquered or oiled. The two take different products, so check which one you have before you buy anything. A care guide sits on every colour’s product page, and our maintenance and cleaning guide covers the routine.
