Ultra Matt / Raw EffectThe look of raw, unfinished oak

“As natural as it looks.”

An ultra-matt or raw-effect finish takes the shine off the oak — so the floor looks close to bare, freshly sanded timber. Instead of a visible sheen, the surface reflects almost no light, leaving the grain and colour of the board to carry the look.

It reads as raw and untouched, but it is still a finished floor. A very low-sheen lacquer or oil holds the natural look while the board stays finished and easy to live with — the pared-back, matt appearance without leaving the timber bare.

A quiet, low-glare surface. With almost no reflection, an ultra-matt floor stays soft and calm in the light — the look most people are after in contemporary and Scandinavian-inspired interiors, where the timber is meant to feel honest and understated.

What is an ultra-matt or raw-effect finish?

It is a finish that takes almost all the sheen off the oak, so the floor looks close to bare, freshly sanded timber. The board is still finished — you get the raw, matt look without leaving the timber unsealed.

Is it the same as an unfinished floor?

No. An unfinished floor is bare oak that still needs coating on site; an ultra-matt or raw-effect floor arrives already finished, just with a very low sheen so it reads as raw. You get the look without the extra step.
