Refresh a dull lacquered floor — no sanding, no recoat
GrainGuard is a ready-to-use matt surface coat for lacquered timber floors that are starting to look dull or lightly worn. It lays a thin, even protective layer over a clean floor that helps take everyday wear, and keeps a natural, low-sheen look — without changing the colour or character of the timber. It sits between routine cleaning and a professional recoat.

GrainGuard lays a fresh matt protective layer — it does not clean a floor, so clean and dry the floor first. It is for lacquered and matt-lacquered timber only; it is not for oiled or hardwax-oiled floors, raw or unfinished timber, or floors that need sanding or recoating. Always test a small out-of-the-way area first and let it dry before coating the whole floor.
Clean, then lay a thin matt coat
- Clean the floor and let it dry — the surface needs to be clean, dry and grease-free, or anything left on it gets sealed in.
- Apply a thin, even coat along the grain with a well-wrung microfibre mop or cloth. No diluting — it goes on straight from the bottle.
- Let it dry. Use GrainGuard only when the floor needs a refresh — typically a few times a year, not as a routine cleaner.
