Château

Château Collection wide-plank engineered European oak flooring with expressive grain and natural colour variation

A Vienna Woods Collection

ChâteauCharacter-grade European oak flooring

“European oak, with all its character intact.”

Château is our character collection. Wide-plank European oak with the knots, sap and natural colour movement left in. Where a clean floor hides the timber, Château shows it — expressive grain, board-to-board variation, and a 240mm width that lets it breathe. Every board is a 15mm engineered build with a 4mm European oak wear layer over a multi-ply core.

The traditional end of oak. These are the colours for a room that wants warmth and age, not a showroom shine — from the pale, milky Café Au Lait through the silvered grey of Margaux and Versailles to the deep, smoked Montauk. It’s a traditional European-oak character, brushed and mostly matt-lacquered, with selected colours finished in oil.

Built for a New Zealand house. Engineered oak is more dimensionally stable than solid timber, so it copes with our humidity swings and lays over concrete and underfloor heating when it’s installed correctly. As a character grade, some knots, sap and colour variation between boards is part of the floor — expected, not a fault. Selected colours are held in stock; the rest are milled to order.

A matt finish, and support to specify

Château is brushed and mostly finished in a matt lacquer, with selected colours finished in oil for a softer, more natural feel. It’s a character grade, so knots, sap and colour variation between boards are part of the look, not a defect. A Care Guide and Installation Guide sit on every colour’s product page.

Specifying it? Technical documents and Masterspec references are on our Architect & Specifier Support page, and there’s a full guide to styles, finishes & textures if you’re comparing options.

The Château colours

Common questions

What does ‘character grade’ mean?

Château is graded for character, so the boards keep their knots, sap and natural colour movement rather than being sorted for a clean, uniform look. It’s what gives the floor its warmth and age. As a natural timber product, some variation between boards — and against samples — is normal and to be expected.

What size are the planks?

A 240mm wide plank, 2200mm long (selected colours run to 2400mm), in a 15/4 engineered build — a 4mm European oak wear layer over a 15mm board — laid glue-down with a tongue-and-groove, micro-bevel edge. The extra width suits the collection’s more expressive grain.

What’s the finish, and is it suitable for underfloor heating?

Château is brushed and mostly matt-lacquered, with selected colours oiled. As an engineered floor it’s more dimensionally stable than solid timber and can be laid over concrete and underfloor heating, subject to correct installation. Each colour’s product page carries a Care Guide and an Installation Guide.

Which colours are in stock?

Selected colours are held in stock; the rest are made to order — please allow approximately 3-4 months, an estimate that can vary with production and shipping. Stock moves, so ask us for the current position before you specify.
