The standard dimensions of chevron and herringbone timber flooring that you’ll find in New Zealand are 120mm wide by 600mm long.  But do let your creativity run wild since we are able to source much larger options.

Classic parquet flooring designs and shapes often include a variety of intricate patterns that have been popular for centuries. Here are some of the most renowned classic parquet designs:

  1. Herringbone:
    • A timeless pattern where rectangular planks are laid in a zigzag pattern. Each plank meets the next at a right angle, creating a distinctive and elegant look.
  2. Chevron:
    • Similar to herringbone, but with a V-shaped pattern. The ends of the planks are cut at an angle, creating a continuous zigzag design without the step effect of herringbone.
  3. Basket Weave:
    • This pattern mimics the look of a woven basket. Rectangular planks are laid in a square grid, with each “basket” unit alternating direction to create a woven effect.
  4. Versailles:
    • Named after the famous French palace, this pattern is a square mosaic of interwoven planks. It often includes diagonal elements and borders, creating a sophisticated and ornate design.
  5. Hexagon:
    • Planks are cut into hexagonal shapes and laid out in a honeycomb pattern. This design is less common but provides a unique and visually striking appearance.
  6. Chantilly:
    • A more complex and elaborate design that combines various shapes and sizes of planks to create a highly detailed and decorative pattern, often used in historic buildings and grand homes.
  7. Mosaic:
    • Small, individual pieces of wood are arranged in a repeating geometric pattern, similar to tiles. This design can vary greatly, offering a wide range of visual effects.
  8. Brickwork:
    • This pattern resembles traditional brickwork, with rectangular planks laid in horizontal rows. Each row is offset from the one above, creating a staggered effect.
  9. Ladder:
    • Also known as the block or checkerboard pattern, this design features square blocks of wood laid in a grid, with alternating directions to create a checkerboard effect.

These classic parquet flooring designs are celebrated for their intricate craftsmanship and timeless appeal, adding elegance and sophistication to any space.
